St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Cathedral in Dumfries, built in 1813, was destroyed by fire in May 1961. The fire ravaged the building, which was beyond repair and had to be demolished. Following the demolition, a new church was built on the site between 1963 and 1965, incorporating the old cathedral’s crypt.
